All About Circle Lenses - Everything Beginners Need To Know!

THEY'RE FUN!

THEY'RE BRIGHT!

THEY COME IN ALL DIFFERENT COLORS!

THEY COME IN ALL KINDS OF SIZES!

AND ALL KINDS OF PATTERNS!

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, THEY MAKE UR EYES LOOK SO DAMN PRETTY!

THAT'S RIGHT, THEY'RE CIRCLE LENSES!!!!

So like I promised b4 in my previous post, I am going to be focusing this post on CIRCLE LENSES!!!!! <33333

This post will tell you everything you need to know, including everything frm how to open the lenses to how to take care of them to how to buy them. EVERYTHING! Let's kick off with the basics Q & A first!

ALL ABOUT CIRCLE LENSES: BASICS Q & A!

For a short history of circle lenses, plz visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circle_contact_lens

Q: To start off with, what are circle lenses?

A: Circle lenses are cosmetic soft contact lenses that are worn often to enlargen and enhance the appearance of one's eyes and to give a dolly, cute look to the wearer. They come in many different colors, sizes, and have different patterns printed on them. The center of the lenses are clear, so you see obviously!

Q: Do circle lenses come in prescription?

A: Yes, most of them do! If you do NOT need a prescription, you can purchase plano lenses, or lenses that have no vision correcting abilities are just plain. If you do need prescription lenses, be sure to check with your eye doctor first! Just about all circle lenses are offered in both prescription and plano, so don't worry!

Q: Where can I buy circle lenses?

A: Well, circle lenses are very popular in most Asian countries, such as Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, etc. and can be found just about anywhere in those countries. However, here la America, you will most likely have to purchase your lenses online as circle lenses have not yet been approved by the FDA. There are TONS of sites selling circle lenses (just google em up!). Just as a personal recommendation, I get my lenses at pinkyparadise.com, an awesome site with a wide selection of lenses, fast shipping, and free bonuses (the prices are waaaaaay cheaper than other sites too LOL I did my research ;D). There are lots of sites out there too, but pinkyparadise is the number one and largest online retailer for cosmetic lenses. *PS NOT ENDORSED STATEMENT*

Q: Wait, so they're not approved by the FDA?!?! Does that mean buying circle lenses are illegal? :'O

A: HAHAHAHAHA NOT AT ALL!!!!!!! If you are caught SELLING them and trying to IMPORT them into the U.S. then yes you might have some trouble. But if you're just buying them, you're off scott free! No worries - its only the sellers who are shipping "illegal" lenses into the U.S. that will face any sort of charges. So just chill! Technically, they are "illegal" in US bcuz they haven't been approved by the FDA yet (I'll explain why in the next question)

Q: Can circle lenses damage your eyes? Is that why circle lenses are not approved by the FDA?

A: Damage to your eyes depends on you - if you take good care of your lenses, you should be just fine! Taking good care of your lenses includes cleaning them properly, storing them properly, wearing them for a reasonable amount of time, etc. I will go into further detail on how to take care of your lenses later on. Also, if you wear prescription or have any type of eye problems, I recommend you check with your eye doctor first before buying and wearing circle lenses. The reason why circle lenses have not yet been approved by the FDA is because they are manufactured largely in a ton of different Asian countries without any supervision or regulation - which of course is why the FDA cannot go check up on ALL the bijillion something manufacturing plants out there as they are all international, not domestic. Hence, the FDA has no way of approving circle lenses and just dubbed them "illegal". Har har.

Q: How long do circle lenses last?

A: Most circle lenses will have an expiration date on the bottle. Check the expiration date before wearing your lenses! The lenses are said to expire one year after you open their bottles.

Q: Should I throw out my circle lenses after one year?

A: Technically, it's recommended that you should. However, I personally feel that this is a gimmick that lens companies come up with to try to get you to buy more lenses! I feel that if you take really good care of your lenses and handle them well, they should last you for some time. Though it's still best to be safe than sry! If you feel the need to, throw out your lenses after a year. If you're willing to handle a little risk (like moi!) then keep 'em! ^^ Just be warned - don't keep them for TOO long!

Q: What kind of lenses should I buy?

A: Honestly, that's entirely up to you!!!! THERE ARE TONS OF CIRCLE LENSES - from small natural black and brown ones that just enlargen your eyes to HUGE CRAZY GOOGOO GAGA RED, BLUE, PURPLE, GREEN, AND EVEN PINK ONES XD! What kind of lens you like is up to you! Browse some sites to get an idea. Circle lenses also come in various sizes - the larger the diameter, the more dramatic and dolly your eyes will look! (I will post my circle lens starter kit/basic must-haves kit in a few sections down with some recommendations!)

Q: What size circle lenses should I buy then?

A: It depends on what look you're going for. Circle lenses usually range frm 14mm-16mm in diameter.  If you like a sweet and natural enlargening and eye brightening effect, you can try lenses anywhere from 14-14.5 mm in diameter. If you want a more daring, bold dolly big eye look, try anything 14.5mm +!  Also hunt around for different colors and patterns!

Q: Cool! Thanks Doll! Can we get started now? :D

A: OH HELL YEAH WE CAN! ;)

WHAT TO DO BEFORE YOU EVEN RECEIVE YOUR LENSES

Before you even GET your gorgeous lenses in the mail, there are some things you must take care of first!!!!

Taking care of circle lenses is just like taking care of a regular contact lens - you must be careful!

THINGS TO BUY B4 LENSES ARRIVE:

1) CONTACT LENS CASE - yah NEED somewhere to store your lenses after yah open em, right? ;P Contact lens cases come a variety of styles and are usually super cheap and affordable. With most circle lens selling sites, you even get the contact lens case for free! (pinkparadise gives you a free lens case, its the cutie animal case one in the middle)

they can be cute ! (or not like the last one ahohohho)
Cutie Animal Lens Case ( Elephant )

2) A CONTACT LENS CLEANING SOLUTION - you NEED a cleaning solution to disinfect, store, rinse, clean, and protect your lenses!!!!!!! there are a TON of different lens cleaning solutions - BUT I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND (require) YOU TO GET A MULTIPURPOSE DISINFECTING SOLUTION!!!!! (trust me, it will save you a TON of time and trouble!)

Personally, I use OptiFresh Express :

You can find this online, but I recommend yah just drive to your local pharmacy/drugstore/watever and just pick up a bottle - they usually sell this kinda stuff just about everywhere. Mine was $19.99 -  I think cuz its a larger bottle. There are lots of brands out there, but I think OptiFresh is the best. JUST MAKE SURE YAH GET  A MULTIPURPOSE DISINFECTING SOLUTION, KAY?

3) REWETTING DROPS - this one is actually OPTIONAL! but if you know your eyes tend to get dry or you're going to be wearing your lenses for a long, extended period of time, you should probably also pick up a small bottle of rewetting drops. as the name suggests, rewetting drops help to remoisturize your eyes in case they get dry or uncomfortable while you're wearing circle lenses. since circle lenses are a little bit larger and thicker than regular prescription soft contact lenses, they tend to dry out your eyes more. For some ppl, they can't handle this - so rewetting drops help to ease wearing circle lenses.

This is the one I use. Read the label and figure it out for urself :) :

I must say, I actually haven't really needed the rewetting drops or use it much. I just pop my lenses on and just basically forget that I'm even wearing them in the first place after a while LOL! But you should still get rewetting drops just in case :).

Ok, now we're done with preparations, let's move on!!!!!!

PS *********all the following images you will see in the following 2 sections are ALL MY OWN IMAGES. Feel free to use them, BUT YOU MUST CREDIT TO THIS BLOG. Thank you :) !********

1) OPENING YOUR CIRCLE LENSES

Yah may think this sounds stupid and boring now, but when those lens bottles come in the mail and you screw up trying to open ur lenses, you'll be sorry!!!!!!

Like I said, circle lenses come in pairs of bottles like dis:

(these are my own personal lenses i got in China! i shall share my entire collection in a seperate post ^^)

As you can see, they are all plano - i haf 20/20 vision! ahohohoho ^^ smthin to brag about!!!!! *but not for long ahehehehe TuT*

Anyboos, when you first get your lenses in the bottles, get your contact lens case and disinfecting solution ready at hand.

For the following demonstration, I am using a pair of brown-yellow 17.2 mm planno circle lens from the brand MIMO. Sorry, I don't know the name of the lenses - I'm not sure if they even have one. I believe it is this one frm their Diamond Two Tone Series, which I found on their site:

1) Turn the circle lens bottles until you find the little arrows ingrained on the cap like this:

2) Goody! Once you find the arrow, you can press you thumb up against the arrow and push upwards until the cap pops up!

3) Orrrrr....if you have a weak, lousy thumb like me (or if ur just lazy), you can press the lens bottle at the arrow against a hard, stable, flat surface and pull down quick, which also pops the cap up! make sure you press the arrow part to the surface tho!!!  ^.^"

4) Hooray! You've officially manged to open ur contact lens bottle! Now just repeat the same step for the other bottle b4 we move onto the next step :D!

image.jpeg

5) Ok, now for the next step, carefully peel back the cap, but don't break it off completely! Make sure you peel it back until only one side of the cap metal is attached to the rest of the metal seal.

image.jpeg

6) Okay, now CAREFULLY peel off the rest of the metal seal. BE CAREFUL DON'T CUT YOURSELF CAUSE THAT METAL IS SHARP!!!!!!

image.jpeg

7) Now you should have just the rubber stopper left. Carefully pop off the white rubber stopper.

image.jpeg

OK! Done wid this section! :D Lezzz move on to da next one!

2) TRANSFERRING YOUR LENSES TO THEIR CASES

1) Okay, so your lens bottles are now open! Get your lens case ready! Unscrew one side of the case.

image.jpeg

2) Now, very quickly, pour the lens with the saline solution frm the bottle into one side of the lens case.

photo.JPG    photo.JPG

3) Next, WASH YOUR HANDS WID SOAP IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY DONE SO!!!!!!!!!! Always handle lenses with clean hands. Once hands are cleansed, USING ONLY THE PALM OF ANY FINGER (I recommend your ring finger bcuz its the weakest finger), pick up the lens very carefully.

photo.JPG

4) Now dump out the remaining saline solution inside the contact lens into ur sink or toilet or heck throw it out ur window onto ur neighbors head. Do w/e yah like. >:) JK.

After you dump out the solution, get ur bottle of multipurpose disinfecting solution ready! Like I said, I am using OptiFresh Express. Remember: you are doing all this with one hand bcuz the other hand is holding the lens!!!!!!

Rinse your lens case with the multipurpose solution. Pour it in, swirl it around,  then dump it into the sink to clean the lens case. Then place your lens inside the case. Pour the solution onto the lens so that the entire lens is covered.

photo.JPG

5) Repeat the same steps for the second lens bottle! When you're finished, you should have something like dis:

image.jpeg

6) Now screw the covers back onto the lens VERY TIGHTLY! We don't bacteria or dust to get into the case and we don't want the moisture to escape from the case either! Store your lenses at room temperature for at least 6-8 hours b4 wearing them!

image.jpeg

3) PUTTING YOUR CIRCLE LENSES ON AND TAKING THEM OUT!

Ok, so after 6-8 hrs of soaking ur lenses in the multipurpose solution, you can finally wear these darlings!!!!!!!! <33333 :DDDD

Unfortunately, I am no good with film and video, so I'm just going to post this youtube video that explains how to put circle lenses in much better instead ! :)  Also talks about how to take them out!

Also , I am going to give some quick pointers and tips on as to how I put in/take out my lenses:

How I Put Them In and Take Them Out:

1) MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NO MAKE UP ON BEFORE YOU PUT YOUR LENSES ON!

2) Make sure YOUR HANDS ARE CLEAN, WASHED WID SOAP!!!!!

3) Always use the ring finger to handle lenses - its the weakest finger!

4) Before putting your lenses in, I would recommend that you curl your lashes to get them out of the way! The first time I tried putting lenses on, it kept getting caught in my lashes! Super annoying, I kept dropping it on my counter and then had to disinfect it again and again! Also, CHECK TO SEE THAT THE LENS ISNT INSIDE OUT!!!

If its right, it should be a perfect half circle. If the lens is inside out, the edges will point out (see diagram below) Also, if its inside out, it will feel awkward and uncomfortable when you put it on.

5) This is how I put in my lenses: I just curl my lashes, pull down my lower lashline, and then just gently place the lens onto my eyes. Ez peasy. Some ppl like to pull both their upper and lower lashline to widen the eyes for the lenses. Do wat you like. :/

6) If you are a first time wearer, you might be scared bcuz your eyes might feel irritated when you put the lenses on. Don't worry - I had the same feeling too when I put on my first pair!!!! Just keep blinking, the lens will adjust itself naturally. After a while, you get used to it! :D

7) To take lenses out, I just VERY GENTLY - using only PALM of my index and thumb finger - pinch the lenses and just pull them out. I know it looks and sounds scary BUT ITS NOT!!!!! Just practice, practice, practice!!!!If you do it right, it wont hurt a pinch! When I first put lenses on, I FREAKED cuz I couldn't get them out! LOL - dun wry, its super ez after you get the hang of it!!!!!!! ;)

8) After you take out your lenses, lay it out on the palm of your hand, pour multipurpose solution to cover the lens, and gently (using the ring finger again!) rub across the lens. This will help remove protein buildup frm ur eyes and any dust/dirt bits that might be stuck to it. EVEN IF YOU HAVE A NO-RUB MULTIPURPOSE SOLUTION, I STILL HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU STILL DO THIS!!!!

9) After you give your lenses a rub, dump out the old solution frm your lens case. Place the lenses inside the case again and cover them with solution. Seal tightly and store away until the next time! :D

4) TIPS FOR TAKING CARE OF LENSES

  • Switch the solution of your lenses every 3 days if you don't wear them. Dump out the old solution from the case and pour in fresh solution. This prevents bacteria build up.
  • Switch lens cases every 3 months.
  • If you EVER scratch, tear, or cut your lenses, DO NOT WEAR THEM ANY LONGER - throw them out ASAP.
  • You should technically dump out your lenses a year after opening them......though I personally like to keep mine longer so long as I continue to take good care of them ^^.
  • If it is past the expiration date on the bottle - DO NOT USE THE LENSES. If you JUST ordered them, send it back for fresh ones. Also, if the lens or the bottle is already damaged or opened in any way when you first get them in the mail, RETURN IT FOR NEW ONES. Most online sellers have a flexible return policy. :)

THIS WAS THE VERY FIRST CIRCLE LENS I'D EVER BOUGHT & WORE!!!!!!!!!

AND THESE WERE THE PERFECT FIT!!!!! They are SUPER SUPER SUPER natural, you can barely even tell you have it on - but it still gives your eyes a dollish cute brightened look !

<333333333333333 hahaha I was gonna get this in blue, but then changed my mind at the last second bcuz I didn't think I could wear blue often T.T :(

I regret it now bcuz sadly, the black kitty heads on mine don't even show up against my black irises! So that was a dumb miscalculation T.T dun judge me plz </3   OH LORD I SHUVE GOTTEN THE BLUE OR THE PINK!!!!!! oh w/e. I still rele like it tho <3 sry if you can't even see the kitty heads in my picture. my camera doesn't focus too well #DontHateMe4Me

EVEN SO - I still like the black ones bcuz they have a nice dolly effect but are not too overbearing. It's perfect for when you wanna look just an extra little bit sweeter ;) and heaven knows I love sweet!

I think every girl should have a basic black and/or brown color - a nice muted color that u can just pick up and wear day to day for any occasion!!!! (If you have blue or green eyes, you can also pick up ur respective colors)
